Globalization has changed the world, our societies and the way we interact as humans. What are the effects of globalization and who is experiencing them?
Former president of Uruguay José Alberto Mujica guides us through the documentary with his thoughts on a more just world. Through the eyes of African migrants and Spanish and Japanese workers, we experience how globalization is affecting the lives of ordinary people. The documentary interweaves stories of people on three continents: African migrants who want to flee to Europe; Spanish workers who can no longer make ends meet; and Japanese employees facing loneliness in the modern world. Even as we are separated from these people by geography, social class and ethnicity, it becomes clear that we are all alike at the heart of our human existence. We all share desires, longings and hopes. And that provides us with an opportunity to not only to see the negative effects of globalization but to create something new together. The former Uruguayan President José ‘Pepe’ Mujica acts as our guide through this documentary and constantly reminds us of our humanity.
